About The Whitley Lake Band
Richie and Martin have played in several bands over the years; Hoffman Sloth, The Sabres and the experimental Dirty Shingles. However, it seemed like musically things were slowing down - until some major life changes happened and a seemingly new dawn arrived.
Now living a stones throw away from Sandbanks, it was here fresh music inspiration arrived. Jamming on the sands of Whitley Lake became the new normal. It was at this spot they took the name and formed The Whitley Lake Band.
The intention was a 2-piece band with some laid back jammed vibes. The Butchers Dog, Ashley Cross gave them a chance to play the beer garden one summer evening. As soon as this first gig came to an end there was no mistaking the underlying energy from the previous bands. With the next gig, the amps and drum kit got bigger, and before they knew it, they played a headline show at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Ashley Cross Street party.
A quick demo EP was recorded and more gigs followed.
It was at this time a side project at Martin and Richie’s day job employer the RNLI - ‘Rock the boat’ - a charity gig featuring staff from the RNLI, led the band to meet bassist Luke Parnell. The line-up was complete and now armed with Lukes punchy bass lines the, gigs continued.
At the end of 2023 the band decided it was time to head into the studio.
